History of the Canadian Open

The Canadian Open is one of Canada’s longest running Blood Bowl tournaments. First held in Toronto in 2004, it began as a small regional event and has since grown into a nationally recognized tournament, drawing coaches from across Canada and beyond.

Over the years, the Canadian Open has traveled between multiple cities, hosted by different organizing groups and local communities. Each iteration has built on the work of those who came before, preserving the tournament’s identity while adapting to the evolving Blood Bowl ruleset and competitive landscape.

The tournament has always been defined by three principles: competitive integrity, community, and continuity. Swiss pairings, clear rulesets, and consistent award structures have ensured a fair competitive environment, while a strong community culture has kept players returning year after year.

In 2026, the Canadian Open returns to Toronto, honoring its origins while continuing a tradition that now spans more than two decades. This return marks both a homecoming and a new chapter, reaffirming the tournament’s place as a cornerstone of the Canadian Blood Bowl calendar.
